St François et St Seraphim 6
Les vêtements des deux saints ont été progressivement éclairés. Difficile là encore de rendre avec une photo les couleurs exactes. Il y a plus de contrastes sur le vêtement blanc de Seraphim. Quant à la bure de François, j'avais initialement l'intention de la faire dans les bruns (comme celle des franciscains aujour'hui). Et "curieusement" elle est sortie dans les brun/gris. Ayant fait depuis quelques recherches, j'ai découvert que le vêtement franciscain fut gris avant d'être brun (comme le montrent les plus anciennes enluminures, Manuscrit de Thérouanne par exemple). C'était celui des ouvriers pauvres de Calabre. Le brun est devenu la norme actuelle depuis le 15ème siècle seulement. Providentiel certes...mais je me demande quelles seront les réactions des gens devant ce détail inattendu...

The garments of the two saints have been gradually highlighted. Again it is difficult to have a picture with accurate colors. There is more contrast on the white cassock of Seraphim. As for the garment of Francis, I had originally planed to make it in brown (like garment of the Franciscans today). And "curiously" it turned out in a kind of brown /grey. Having done some research since, I discovered that the Franciscan friar habit was originaly grey before being brown (as shown in the old illuminations of the Manuscript of Thérouanne for instance). It was the color of the working poor of Calabria. Brown is now the norm but only since the 15th century. Providential certainly ... but I wonder how people will react in front of this unexpected detail ...
