St Seraphim et St François 5

Pour des raisons pratiques (ne pas endommager la peinture avec ma main), je commence toujours pas les parties en haut (et à gauche) de l'icône. J'ai donc commencé à éclaircir les vêtements puis le visage et les mains du Christ. Il s'agit du Christ bénissant, dans la sphère céleste. Généralement, il ne bénit que de la main droite, ses doigts formant le monogramme IC XC (Jésus-Christ). Ici, il bénit des deux mains chacun des deux saints. Sa tunique (le chiton) est rouge et marquée d'une bande (le clavus ou stichos) symbolisant la royauté divine du Christ.. Il est aussi revêtu d'un manteau (un himaton) . Généralement ce manteau est vert-bleu pour symboliser la nature humaine du Christ. Ici, il est d'une couleur claire tirant sur le jaune or, symbolisant la Résurrection.

L'abondante chevelure encadre le visage et tombe en tresse sur l'épaule. Le cou épais et comme gonflé exprime la plénitude du souffle de l'Esprit saint. La barbe est courte. Le Livre, ouvert sur ses genoux contient les lettres alpha et oméga (le début et la fin de toute chose).

Les couleurs sont -comme toujours- mal rendues par la photo...le bleu tire plus vers le vert; en général, elles sont moins criardes que ce que vous voyez ici.

For practical reasons (do not damage the paint with my hand), I always start at the top (and left) of the icon. therefore I started here to enlighten the garment, face and hands of Christ. This is the Blessing Christ in the celestial sphere. Generally, Christ blesses with his right hand, his fingers forming the monogram IC XC (Jesus Christ). Here, he blesses with both hands, each of the two saints. His tunic (the chiton) is red and marked with a band (the clavus or stichos) and symbolizes the divine kingship of Christ .. He is also wearing a coat (a himaton). This coat is usually green-blue to symbolize the human nature of Christ. Here it is painted in a light color (a golden yellow), symbolizing the Resurrection.

The abundant hair frames the face and falls on the shoulder. The neck is thick,and almost swollen to express the fullness of the breath of the Holy Spirit. The beard is short. The book opened on his lap contains the letters Alpha and Omega (the beginning and end of all things).

The colors are as always unfaithful to the reality. For instance, the blue is closer to green; and generally they are less flashy than what you see here.
